Marketing at T.S.S

The main function of T.S.S. is marketing. Arecanut , pepper and cardamom are the three crops being sold through T.S.S.. Vanilla is also being marketed here. Arecanut is the main crop sold through T.S.S. Agriculturists bring their produce directly to the society or through the primary co operative societies for sale. Agriculturists will have to be the members of the society to sell the produces. They may be nominal members or share members.

Marketing activities are fully controlled by Agricultural Produce Market Committee. Because arecanut and pepper are the regulated commodoties .

Stock:

Members will bring different varieties of arecanut .But arecanut of good quality will be stored in the godowns. No godown rent will be charged . Arecanut once stocked will be sold only after getting instructions by the concerned members. Stocks are systematically stored in the godowns .

Members also bring pepper and cardmum for sale. Pepper may be sold immediately or stored in the godowns .

Role of T.S.S. in Marketing :

          T.S.S. is playing a major role in safeguarding the interest of its members for last eighty years. It has contributed so much for the overall economic development of its members. More than eighteen thousand agriculturists are the members of this institution. Members are the representatives of the family settled in rural areas and remote areas. That means more than eighteen thousand families are depending on this renowned institution for their economic and social prosperity. They have trust in the principles of this co operative inistution. It is acting as a commission agent by providing to its members as well as a trader by purchasing and selling of their produces.

We have observed too much price fluctuation in arecanut market for last six years. Nobody can so easily imagine when the arecanut price will go up or come down. The market will be influenced by various factors like production, demand and supply, government policies, natural calamities, import and export policies, taxation policies. T.S.S is purchasing and marketing arecanut so as to maintain stability in the arecanut price. It will purchase the arecanut through tender system. It is carrying these activities under a separate section called “Arecanut Trading Section”.

            Employees’ will be trained to maintain harmonious relationship with members and purchasers.   It is also purchasing and marketing good quality , red and white arecanut . It is supplying good quality arecanut to the northern parts of India. All efforts are being made to see that good quality, different variety of arecanut are available at very competitive rate in every parts of the country. It is supplying arecanut directly to Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarath, Maharastra and northern parts of Karnataka. It is supplying arecanut through “TSS” brand. It is also thinking of supplying arecanut in small packings so that it will be easier to supply to every corner and remote areas of northern parts of Karnataka state.

           For the first time , about six months’ back an excellent programme was arranged through All India Radio Dharwad to give knowledge to the public regarding the importance of using arecanut.   Every day rate of arecanut, pepper will be reported in the local news papers. Any member can get information about market rate of any variety on the date of sale itself . The main destination of this inistitution is not only to provide marketing facilities to its members but also to see that all marketing activities are transparent. During office hours any concerned member can check and confirm that the stock kept in the godown are in good condition.
